3rd RKMVERI Friday Colloquium on “Bridging the Gap of Production and Demand: Breeding strategies in Legume crops” – 04 Nov 2022

We are glad to announce that Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute (RKMVERI) will be conducting a special colloquium on “Bridging the Gap of Production and Demand: Breeding strategies in Legume crops” on 04 November 2022, 12 noon at Seminar Hall, Narendrapur Campus.

Speaker : Dr. Anirban Roy, RKMVERI
Co-ordinator: Abhijit Chakrabarti

Plant breeding utilizes natural variation in crop plants along with induced variation and selecting and breeding better varieties for farmers utilizing the principles of genetics. Primary focus of plant breeding is development of early and easy selection tools for desired plant type identification and generating novel plant types of consumer preference. Advancement in genomics research leading more gain for desired trait discovery through plant breeding. Genetics plant breeding at IRDM-FC focuses on variety development, marker development, gene identification and also focuses on coastal plant breeding enhancing sustainability in challenged niche along with some environment sound trait discovery. This lecture covers a brief story of challenges of Legume crop and solution through breeding for eastern India and future plant breeding strategies at IRDM.
