Independence Day is one of the most significant national event in India, celebrated on 15th August each year. It marks the day in 1947 when India gained freedom from British colonial rule, ending nearly two centuries of oppression. This day is not only a reminder of the sacrifices made by countless freedom fighters but also a celebration of the nation's hard-won liberty. The importance of Independence Day lies in its ability to unite the country in remembering the past, while also reflecting on the present and future. It serves as a reminder of the values of freedom, justice, and equality, and the responsibilities that come with being citizens of an independent nation. Today, as we celebrate this momentous day, it also prompts us to think about the ongoing challenges and the role we must play in safeguarding and nurturing the independence that was achieved through great struggle.
On 15th August 2024, the Narendrapur Campus of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute (RKMVERI) celebrated the 78th Independence Day with great enthusiasm. The flag hoisting ceremony took place at 7:30 AM, led by our respected Dean, Dr. Tapash Dasgupta. In his speech, Dr. Dasgupta emphasized the importance of independence and paid tribute to Bengal's freedom fighters, including Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and Khudiram Bose. He also highlighted the contributions of Swami Vivekananda, who inspired Indian youth to rise against injustice. The students, represented by Hrisikesh Bhattacharya, Arpita Pal, Suvendu Ghosh, and Mukul Naskar, also delivered speeches on this auspicious occasion. The program concluded with the distribution of sweets to all attendees. The event saw active participation from faculty, staff, and students, with around 100 people in attendance, making it a memorable and patriotic celebration.
