On 23 August 2024, the Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute (RKMVERI), Narendrapur Campus, proudly celebrated National Space Day. This day marks a significant milestone in India's space history, commemorating the successful landing on the Moon's 2023, making India the fourth country to achieve this feat after the United States, Russia, and China and first to reach on the Southern Pole. To honour this remarkable achievement, RKMVERI organized a program featuring a keynote address by an eminent speaker and presentations from students. The event was graced by Dr. Debasis Majumdar, Retired Professor from the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics and currently serving as Guest Faculty at RKMVERI, Belur. The program commenced with the welcoming of dignitaries and the recitation of Vedic chants. In his opening remarks, Dr. P. G. Dhar-Chakravorty provided a concise overview of India's space history, highlighting the successful missions undertaken by ISRO and discussing future endeavors. Following this, students Ashish S. K., Nitu Ghosh, and Anuska Jana delivered insightful speeches. Dr. Abhijit Chakraborty then introduced the chief guest, Dr. Debasis Majumdar, who delivered the keynote address. In his address, Dr. Majumdar eloquently spoke on the theme of "Space: An Unfathomable Expanse." He emphasized the cosmic rhythm that governs our universe and humanity's enduring curiosity about the wonders of the cosmos. Dr. Majumdar articulated how this insatiable curiosity has driven humankind to embark on space explorations, enriching our understanding of cosmic phenomena. He further elaborated on India's significant contributions to space exploration, underscoring the nation's endeavors and successes in probing deep into space, which have significantly advanced our knowledge of the fundamental processes shaping our universe. The event was attended by approximately 100 participants, marking a successful and enriching celebration of National Space Day.
