Ragging is one of the most shameful issues India has been facing for years. It has ruined countless valuable lives. The educational institutes run by Ramakrishna Mission are exceptions in case of occurrence of ragging as administration is prompt, sincere and dedicated to uphold the dignity of every personand the students and teachers are tied up with the bond of love.

As per the UGC notification, Narendrapur Campus of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute (RKMVERI) observed Anti-Ragging Day on 12th August, 2024.On this day, UGC anti-ragging posters were displayed. A speech competition was also conducted to spread awareness about the issues of ragging among the students. The topic of extempore competition was given as – “Breaking the Silence: Creating a Ragging-Free Environment is Our Collective Responsibility. The programme started with Shanti Mantra Chanting by the students followed by a speech from Dr. Sudipta Tripathi ((Coordinator, Anti-Ragging Squad). He said that in the history of RKMVERI not a single incident of ragging took place and everyone should try to keep this culture of ragging free campus intact. He nicely explained the use and misuse of power in every segments of the society which are also ragging in different names. He requested the audience to protest against ragging whenever they come to know any such incident in any other institutes too. Lastly he explained the Anti-Ragging Mechanism of RKMVERI. Ms. Riyanka Das (Student Representative, Anti-Ragging Squad) delivered a power point presentation on the issues of ragging, legal safe guards to strictly handle ragging and role of institutions to curb the menace of ragging. After that the speech competition on “Breaking the Silence: Creating a Ragging-Free Environment is Our Collective Responsibility” was held where eleven students participated and voiced their views on the given topic. The competition was judged by Dr. Abhijit Chakrabarti, Dr. Sukamal Sarkar, Mr. Supriya Ghorui. Then a valuable speech against ragging was delivered by Dr. Abhijit Chakrabarti (Professor, RKMVERI). He strongly recommended the audience to say ‘NO’ in every walk of life if something happens undesirable. At last, prizes and certificates were conferred to the winning candidates of speech competition and Dr. Sudita Tripathi concluded the session with vote of thanks. Mr. Debojyoti Modak (Student Representative, Anti-Ragging Squad) compered the whole programme. All the participants were given participation certificates and book gifts. Total 10 faculty and staff members were present at that event. The no. students attended the programme was 124.
