We are glad to announce that Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute (RKMVERI) will be conducting a special colloquium on “Multi Omics approaches for state-of-the-art Agricultural and Medical Biotechnology” on 10 April 2026, 12 Noon at Seminar Hall, Narendrapur Campus.
Speaker : Prof. Gaurab Gangopadhyay, Bose Institute, Kolkata
Co-ordinator: Prof. Abhijit Chakrabarti
Abstract
The integration of genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics data enables multi-omics analysis. By moving beyond single-omics, these integrated, systems-level analyses provide a holistic view of biological mechanisms, enabling precise, data-driven interventions for crop improvement and disease management. Given students from both streams, I’ll share the stories from my two research projects.
From an Agricultural perspective, I’ll talk about Sesame, an emerging oilseed crop. We have been working on it for the last seventeen years. We have developed an improved sesame genotype, which has been deposited in the national repository. Today, I’ll share our efforts in sesame improvement through conventional breeding, coupled with state-of-the-art omics research.
From the Medical perspective, I’ll present our recent work on “an integrated in vitro, transcriptomic, and in-silico approach to inhibit the Quorum Sensing (QS) machinery of Chromobacterium violaceum by Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG)”, a major phyto-constituent of green tea.
