Applications are invited from the eligible candidates for admission to the PhD programme in Environment and Disaster Management under the School of Environment and Disaster Management for the academic year 2024-25.
Eligibility Criteria:
- The applicants should have a good academic record throughout, with at least 55% marks in M. Sc. (Environment and Disaster Management, Environment Science, Disaster Management, Geography, Bio-Sciences, Geo-Sciences) examinations from any recognized University or Institute of the country. SC/ST candidates will enjoy a 5% concession in the minimum eligibility of marks.
- Candidates with MA degree in Geography shall be eligible to apply if they have a BSc degree in Geography.
- Preference will be given to candidates who have qualified in CSIR-UGC NET(JRF) /GATE /JEST /equivalent national level examination with Research Fellowship
- Candidate should be below 30 years on the date of application.
- Candidate with Graduation/ Post-Graduation in any other subject shall be considered for admission provided she/ he has displayed considerable and persistent interests on the subject through publications and/ or hands on experience of working in the fields of environment and/ or disaster management. Maximum age bar of such candidates may also be relaxed at the discretion of the Department.
Selection Procedure:
- Applicants with PhD fellowships under CSIR-UGC NET (JRF)/DST-INSPIRE or other Governmental Schemes will be selected on the basis of a viva-voce examination to be conducted by the Department.
- Candidates who have qualified UGC-NET without any fellowship are exempted from appearing in the written test. However they will be required to appear in the interview.
- Candidates appearing for the interview will be required to submit their initial proposal for research in 1000 words on subjects related to environment and/or disaster management.
- The requirement of written test may be waived off in respect of candidates who have displaced their capability of research through publication and/ or work experiences in the fields of environment and disaster management.

Number of vacancies:
Each year only two candidates shall be admitted for the PhD course, one working on environmental issues and the other on disaster risk management, climate change and issues related to interface of environment and disaster management.
How to Apply
- New applicants have to first register on the Online Admission Portal, then login and fill up the online application form.
- Online Admission Portal : https://isr.rkmvu.ac.in/admission
- After successfully submitting the application form, pay the application fee (INR 500.00) online from the same Portal. Link can be found under ‘Options’ next to the program name on the Dashboard.
- While filling up the online application-form attach the scanned copies of your passport size photo, mark-sheets and other applicable certificates/documents.
- Once Application-form is successfully submitted and application-fee is paid, Receipt (also Application-summary) will be available for download from the same Portal from the ‘Dashboard‘.
- Download Admit Card: will be available for download when the dates for Admission Test / Interview are announced. Check the Website / Admission Portal regularly for updates.
Important Dates:
- Last date for application: 31 July 2024 (Wednesday).
- Date of Research Eligibility Test (RET): 06 August 2024 (Tuesday). This will be MCQs based test in the areas of Environmental Science, Disaster Management, Bio-Sciences and Geo-Sciences.
- Time and Venue of RET: 11 am to 1 pm; RKMVERI, Narendrapur Campus
- Results of the written test shall be announced at 2 PM on 6 August 2024
- Interviews of shortlisted candidates shall start from 3 PM on 6 August 2024 and may spill over the next day if the situation so demands
- Short listed candidates shall include those who will qualify the written test and those who have already cleared UGC.NET examination, provided they fulfil other eligibility conditions for admission.
- Final selection of candidates for admission to the PhD course shall be posted on the website of RKMVERI shortly after the conclusion of interview. Selected candidates shall also be informed through email.
- The admission portal will remain active between 7 and 10 August 2024 for payment of the admission fees and completion of the requisite formalities for admission.
- PhD classes shall commence on 12 August 2024 (Monday).
