We are glad to announce that Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute (RKMVERI) will be conducting a special colloquium on “Enhancing Science Education Through the Integration of Foldscope Microscopy and an Interactive Periodic Table” on 26 Apr 2024, 12 noon at Seminar Hall, Narendrapur Campus.
Speaker : Prof. S Balasubramanian, University of Madras, Guindy Campus, Chennai
Co-ordinator: Prof. Abhijit Chakrabarti
Abstract
This project aims to revolutionize science education by integrating two innovative tools: the Foldscope, an affordable paper microscope, and an interactive periodic table. The Foldscope provides a low-cost yet powerful method for students to explore microscopic worlds, democratizing access to scientific tools in under-resourced settings. Simultaneously, the interactive periodic table offers a dynamic digital platform for students to learn about chemical elements, their properties, and their real-world applications. By combining these tools, the project seeks to foster a hands-on, immersive learning experience that enhances students’ understanding of both biology and chemistry. This integration not only bridges the gap between different scientific disciplines but also encourages curiosity and critical thinking among students. The expected outcome is a more engaging and effective educational approach that inspires future generations of scientists and innovators. This project has the potential to be particularly impactful in schools with limited resources, providing them with practical and interactive learning solutions that are otherwise inaccessible.
