We are glad to announce that Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute (RKMVERI) will be conducting a special colloquium on “Biochemical Science in the age of Virtual Experiments” on 12 September 2025, 12 Noon at Seminar Hall, Narendrapur Campus.
Speaker : Dr. Shubhra Ghosh Dastidar, Bose Institute
Co-ordinator: Prof. Abhijit Chakrabarti
Abstract
‘Physics < Chemistry < Biology’, is the direction along which the first-principle based theoretical predictions become increasingly impossible. While in chemistry, it is still possible to use empirical scales of functionalities, reaction mechanisms to rationalize experimental observations and also to predict outcome of an experiment from theoretical calculations, the similar scope in Biological research is far more complex and narrower. The extraordinary growth of computing power in recent time provides opportunities to avoid the classical approach of theoretical predictions replacing it with data analytics and simulations. Such technologies of virtual experiments serve as the navigation system to guide laboratory experiments in Biology and thus can save time, cost and human effort, increasing the rate of success. A few examples of such methods and applications will be presented in this talk.
