Abstract

Entrepreneurship is the creation or extraction of economic value in ways that generally entail beyond the minimal amount of risk (assumed by a traditional business), and potentially involving values besides simply economic ones. The Colonial Entrepreneurship in India not only extracted economic value from their subjects and their resources, it made sure that Indians were barred from entering any competition. This allowed exclusive economic gains and made sure that the colonized population remained the perpetual underdog. In this context, I will discuss Acharya P. C. Ray’s contribution, as an entrepreneur, where he used his scientific and industrial exposure, that he honed in the UK, and his business acumen, to kick start an “Indian Enterprise” that would compete with the Colonial enterprises and enable India to stand on its own feet.
