We are glad to announce that Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute (RKMVERI) will be conducting a special colloquium on “The Great Dynamic Wall of a Cell” on 25 September 2026, 12 Noon at Seminar Hall, Narendrapur Campus.
Speaker : Prof. H Raghuraman, Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP), Kolkata
Co-ordinator: Prof. Abhijit Chakrabarti
Abstract
Biological membranes are composed of heterogeneous mixtures of lipids and proteins, which facilitate cellular compartmentalization for specialized functions and serve as a platform for numerous cellular functions. The function of integral membrane proteins, which constitute ~30% of the mammalian proteome and 60% of all drug targets, is largely governed by the complex lipid-protein interaction landscape in the membrane. In my talk, I will briefly highlight the concepts pertaining to our current understanding of the organization and dynamics of biomembranes, and introduce the emerging idea of ‘functional paralipidome’ to understand the mutual regulation between membrane proteins and the surrounding lipid microenvironment.
