The Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Agriculture is a four-year undergraduate programme designed to provide in-depth knowledge and a comprehensive understanding of agriculture and allied sciences. The curriculum encompasses diverse disciplines such as crop production, soil science, horticulture, agribusiness management, plant breeding, and crop protection, integrating traditional agricultural practices with modern farming systems. The syllabus has been structured in accordance with the recommendations of the Sixth Dean Committee of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Government of India.

The programme emphasizes the development of scientific farming skills along with a strong social perspective and sense of responsibility through rural immersion and extension education activities. It aims to provide students with extensive exposure to theoretical, practical, and experiential learning in agriculture, including laboratory and analytical skills. The programme also seeks to nurture entrepreneurial aptitude, leadership qualities, and professional competence required for careers in industry, research, academia, and rural development. The overall objective is to produce graduates equipped with sound domain knowledge, technical skills, scientific temperament, and ethical values aligned with the philosophy and vision of the Ramakrishna Mission.

In consonance with the spiritual and humanitarian ideals of the Ramakrishna Mission, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute (RKMVERI) places special emphasis on academics and research in disciplines that directly contribute to the welfare of the common people, particularly the rural masses and tribal communities of India. The School of Agriculture and Rural Development at the Narendrapur Campus of RKMVERI is engaged in high-quality teaching, research, and extension activities in both traditional agriculture and advanced crop cultivation technologies. The School strives to promote a harmonious integration of scientific innovation, sustainable agricultural practices, and rural development, thereby creating significant social impact in areas that remain comparatively underrepresented within the higher education system in India.
